Restaurant Marketing: Restaurant Marketing and Word Of Mouth
Restaurant Marketing: Creating word of mouth isn’t necessarily about manufacturing a marketing promotion (free pancakes) and hoping people will talk about it. And if they do, it’s all short term. Real long-term word of mouth comes from the interesting, unique and common sense way you do business everyday.

Longhorn Steakhouse: How To Be Remarkable
Why don’t most restaurants understand that it’s the little things you do that make a huge difference? At the Longhorn Steakhouse in Asheville, our steak wasn’t perfect. Too much fat for the cut. Immediately our server noticed it and said, “this has too much fat, let me take it back and get you a new one.” Then the manager came by to offer his apologies. Much to our amazement, he had also comp’d the steak. He certainly didn’t have to do that.
Lesson: It’s the amazing things we remember and talk about to others. It’s the remarkable things that create loyalty to a specific restaurant. Throw away your email lists, your loyalty clubs, your gimmicks and everything else that “lures” guests to your restaurant. If you’re not doing anything that’s remarkable, then you’re boring.

Restaurant Marketing: Why Your Restaurant Marketing Doesn’t Work
Newspaper ads, Radio-TV commercials.
Direct mailers, billboards, flyers, premiums.
Sweepstakes-contests and every promotion under the sun.
Your web site. Facebook, MySpace & Twitter.
Your email newsletter, birthday club and more.
Guess what! None of that stuff above really matters if your guest isn’t WOW’d.

Restaurant Marketing: The Best Restaurant Is Inside Nordstom
Nordstrom is know for exceptional service and quality of their product. They wrote the book on “beyond service.” But what is not commonly known is that their Nordstrom’s Cafe is a fabulous restaurant. Freshly cooked meals, prepared in an open kitchen environment. Great setting. Fair prices. Huge portions. Try the Salmon Salad Nicoise. It’s filled with fresh vegetables, asparagus, onions, boiled eggs and the most delicious filet of salmon—much better than some of the brand name seafood chains. Try the brick oven pizza. Hot, fresh. Just amazing.
Nordstrom’s Cafe is the best. And, it’s got to be, because it’s part of Nordstrom.
