How Many People Have You Invited To Your Restaurant For Tomorrow?

We get caught up in all of the ways to advertise and market our restaurants both inside and outside in the trading area that we miss one of the strongest and most powerful ways to increase business ... and that’s by using our mouth! Yes, we’ve forgotten about verbally inviting new and potential guests into our restaurant. It’s the “lost art of inviting.”

How to do this? Take a walk and visit your business neighbors and introduce yourself. Take samples and business cards. Invite their staff in for lunch and comp an appetizer tray for the table. Go to your local Chamber of Commerce meeting ... and invite everyone to visit your restaurant. The possibilities are endless ... and yet inviting is rarely done on a regular basis.

I challenge you to verbally invite 10 different sets of groups or companies in each week. Try it and do the work ... well, it’s actually fun ... and your sales will increase. Amazing, isn’t it?

  1. I’m wondering if you had an article about people submitting their site to the (many) restaurant web sites on the internet.

There are certainly plenty of restaurant review sites (Yelp.com), discussion sites (http://www.hiddenboston.com/forum/), online reservation sites (http://restaurantrow.com/rest_prog.cfm) and dish-level review sites (http://www.dishAdish.com [please excuse the shameless plug - I’m involved in that site]) that welcome restaurant owners submitting information about their restaurants.

Any opinion of the value of a restaurant owner scouring the internet and submitting information about his restaurant to such sites?  I’d note that while the smaller ones may have fewer users, they’re often more targeted, and often more willing to work with promoting the restaurants who add content to their site.
